Okay, this is the first never before seen 'new' thing I've posted on this new blog. It's also my daughter's birthday book for this year. For a variety of reasons it was delivered late and the ending was rushed so I'm not altogether satisfied with it (the duplication of 'buzz' gags, especially ending on one of them, but also the quality diminishes as the rushing increases near the end) but I do like it and believe it has legs. And wings.

He's Got A New (Old) Trick

After discovering the soggy potential of paint on typing paper, I coined the phrase Karaoke Doodle as a way of describing my next venture - doodling along to a song. When I originally blogged this back in February 2004, I emailed Billy Bragg's office via his website to make sure he didn't mind me using his lyrics and the Barking Bard himself left a comment and linked to the strip from his website. I think I've come on a long way since I did this and it's a long way short of being one of my favourite strips but the comment from Billy and the link from his site was one of the high points of the original Guild of Ghostwriters.

Love & 8

February last year also saw the start of what I hope will be a lifelong tradition - creating a picture book for my daughter's birthday. This was one of my earliest attempts at watercolour - nowadays gouache watercolour is the stuff I use the moist - and I really didn't know what I was doing. I even painted onto normal typing paper rather than the heavy stuff back then. Now I'm hardcore and stick to all the proper paraphernalia. Anyway, here's the book wot I wrote and draw for my daughter in February 2004...

I'll post the book I did for her 9th birthday very soon. In the meantime, if you require proof that I do still doodle and I'm not all harping on past glories and what not, go check out Vit n Madge's place....

The Substance of Love

February 2004 commenced with this, my first attempt at rescuing old failed poems by turning them into new, failed comic poems...

Sorry it's taken me so long to update. There are only 5 pcs in the library which will allow me to upload from cd-rom and since the library has cut it's opening hours, it's much harder to actually get onto one of these machines and do what I need to do to update this blog with pictures as well as words. Also, apologies for slow or no responses to comments and for forgetting to add former friends to my blogroll - if I've missed you off it's almost certainly an oversight so please let me know and I'll update it when I can. Cheers...
